The Victorian government has announced that it will subsidise the purchase of new electric vehicles in the state – which means the MG ZS EV is now even more affordable.
Already the category leader in electric vehicles throughout Australia when it comes to affordability, the ZS EV could now be even more affordable to eligible Victorians after the state government rebate.
Eligible Victorian customers will receive the $3,000 subsidy when they purchase their new ZS EV at a Victorian MG dealer*.
There is no compromise, either, when it comes to Australia’s best value electric car. MG Pilot, MG Motor’s driver safety technology system, ensures the ZS EV is rated at a maximum of five stars by national safety body ANCAP, while its 44.5kWh battery, in conjunction with adjustable regenerative braking and multiple drive modes, gives the award-winning ZS EV an electric range of up to 263km.1
“We applaud the Victorian government’s initiative to support the roll-out of electric vehicles in that state,” said MG Motor Australia and New Zealand CEO, Peter Ciao.
“At MG, we believe in Electric For Everyone, and this government subsidy will give more people the opportunity to sample the benefits of electric motoring for themselves.”
About the subsidy
The Victorian Government has introduced a $3,000 subsidy* for new Zero Emissions Vehicles (ZEV) as part of a comprehensive plan to meet a target of net zero emissions by 2050 and support the creation of new jobs.
The Victorian Government's announced commitment will make ZEVs more affordable, build charging infrastructure and achieve more ZEVs in government and commercial fleets. The subsidy is available for new ZEV purchases from Sunday, 2 May 2021*.
“Our transport sector is a significant contributor to our emissions,” said Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio.
“This package of reforms makes cars the vehicle for change, by getting more zero emissions vehicles on our roads.”
Subsidies will be available in stages, with an initial 4,000 spots. It is expected that further stages will be announced as the program progresses. The Victorian Government is also introducing a 2030 target to the intent that half of all new car sales be ZEVs.
An expert advisory panel will be established to advise the government on policies, programs and infrastructure required to ensure that figure is met by 2030.
Which vehicles will be covered?
Only battery electric vehicles and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) will be eligible under the program.
The program does apply to second hand vehicles.
It will apply to new vehicles with a vehicle subtotal (dutiable value) under $68,740.
Is there a limit on the price of the ZEV I buy?
Yes, the vehicle subtotal (dutiable value) must be under $68,740.
The value of a car, for the purpose of the threshold, will be the sale price before deduction of the rebate, and includes the value of any parts, accessories or attachments supplied, or imported, at the same time as the car.
Will I be able to receive the ZEV subsidy for a Plug in Hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV)?
No, you will not be able to receive the subsidy for a Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle. The subsidy applies to ZEVs only. PHEVs are already cost competitive with many ICEV models.
Do I have to buy the car in Victoria / from a Victorian dealer?
Yes, new vehicles must be purchased from a Victorian dealer and registered in Victoria. Residents and businesses with the right to register in Victoria are eligible; however, limits may apply per resident and per business.
How long will the ZEV Subsidy run?
The funding in the package will be subject to demand and run until the subsidies are exhausted but is expected to will conclude on 30 June 2024 if all subsidies are not claimed.
