Into a new Eira with the MG ZS EV
It is the start of a new ‘Eira’ for Glen Eira City Council.
The local Victorian council has taken another step towards their commitment of achieving net zero emissions by 2025, teaming with the MG ZS EV to be the official pool car of the council.
After ordering their first ZS EV soon after the car’s official launch, it proved to be such a success that the council has now added eight more to their local fleet.
A GREENER FUTURE
Speaking on the decision to go electric with MG, Mayor Jim Magee said it was an easy choice for the council to make.
Glen Eira City Council is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2025 and our fleet was a clear and easy change to make to achieve our goal.”
“Our council officers use the vehicles every day to respond to issues throughout the municipality and the visibility of our electric MG fleet has the added benefit of demonstrating our commitment to our community.”
WHY MG?
Mr Magee said that MG ZS EV jumped out to the council as the perfect car for their workers thanks to the car’s eco-friendly technology, price and availability.
The custom wrapped MG ZS EV’s play an essential role in the day-to-day operations in Glen Eira, ranging from general carpool use, site visits and the general functions of the council and its services.
The V2L (Vehicle to Load) and V2G functions are two things that also excites Mr Magee on the possibilities of the cars uses in the field.
“We are exploring the opportunities that V2L, V2G offers into the future.
In particular, we are looking at recharging battery electric hand tools from commercial vehicles while in the field.”
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?
This is just the start for Glenn Eira, who hope to continue to pave the way towards a greener future.
“We are committed to moving towards a more sustainable future,” Mr Magee said.
“Local governments can help set an example through basic moves like electric vehicles, retrofitting solar panels on buildings, or using more sustainable designs and construction methods for new buildings.”
“We want to make it as easy as possible for the community to make the switch to renewable energy and reduce emissions.

While the barriers to EV’s used to be substantial, the walls are slowly being brought down, which is at the core of MG’s ethos.
“The cost of buying an EV has been a barrier in the past for many people. In fact, most Australians still believe electric vehicles are too expensive. But things are changing.”
“Now, if you finance an electric vehicle through a novated lease, the tax savings can make an EV considerably cheaper than a non-EV with a similar purchase price. This is mainly due to the fringe benefits tax (FBT) exemption for eligible EVs and PHEVs financed through a novated lease.”
